Research how to figure out if you can tell if character is falling – velocity y is neg always in character controller cos gravity is simulated
OR look at other third person camera script that doesnt require a character controller
Decide on specific actions
Why is it a 3rd person POV rather than a top down point and click? What is our essential experience? Exploring? Quest gameplay? Player movement – written in as part of gameplay
Is our scope still too big?
Quest – puzzle game – dont usually mesh well with “open world”
Why require player to get lasso? Needs to be intuitive – people wouldnt think lasso for a fish – give the player a lasso to begin with? – could just tell player by having a dialogue box of player character thinking they need a lasso
The non-quest gameplay – why need it? – but the narrative – how to imply it if we get rid of it?
Walking to the quest – why? Get rid of it?
Transport player to quest areas?
Present players quest immediately
No benefit in looking for the quest – withholding player from gameplay – no player benefit
Is core quest system enough? Why wouldnt it be?
Why open world? – seemed like the most straight forward way of proving an explorable environment
Emphasise on the fun parts
Scope is too big – open world exploration or the puzzle game – dont have time to prioritise/retain both
At the end of the day, its our game and it should be what we want it to be – it is James’ opinion – can choose to not listen to him and he will still help us
Define game better?
We’ve been trying to justify open world by adding components that aren’t necessary to the core gameplay
Could just have a direct path to the area – not open world
Prioritise Quests – the one we’re happiest with
Task self-given: decide specifics of quests and environment and narrative bits in environment/narrative too imply
Then check up with each other and cross reference some things then decide what to do next
Maybe next concept stuff after meeting up/messaging
Make cards on trello for this
Finding the guardians and items are a puzzle in and of itself – not just open exploration or random discoveries
